Spontaneous Sounds

Music is a language that can communicate what words alone cannot. Ideally, it balances learnt and rehearsed structures with the freedom and confidence to let go and express ourselves.

My name is Jake Slocombe. I have played drumkit, percussion, guitar, violin and sung from a very early age having grown up in a musical household with both parents playing in original rockbands and composing, recording and performing their own music.

I have performed, composed and recorded music with at least 20 different bands of musicians of many varying styles in settings from small and big festivals to well to-do weddings, from working as a street musician in the UK, Spain, Portugal and France to playing for the elderly in care homes.

I teach individual or small groups of students, violin, drums and guitar.

I have also led various group drumming and vocal workshops in schools, corporate events, at festivals, for mental health charities and most recently taught and led hundreds of people with samba drumming for protest in London and Bristol to raise awareness of Climate change and environmental emergency.

I am adept in Irish/Scottish/Celtic folk music and play for many ceilidh dances.

I spent 6 months in West Africa learning djembe drumming and some months in Turkey & Eastern Europe to learn folk violin styles.
